"April's heart, ancient as wind itself refuses to be confined."
In ancient times, the Rifts did not hold a moon in its sky, the mortals were a helpless few, and great beasts roamed unbound. The greatest forces that existed on the rift belonged to the wind, sea, fire, and Beasts. The Beasts roamed the rifts hungry and constantly tormented small settlements. These Beasts became the symbol of fear and chaos to mortals who dwell there. April could command the wind with his mighty bow and would travel between the rifts hunting beasts. To the people April was a name only uttered in legend. The legends spoke of April dancing with the wind, carving mountains with a volley of arrows, and only needing one bolt to smite a Beast.
One night below the stars was a great fire. The sky turned from a dark blue to orange where wheat fields had burst into flame. Sparks whirled around a large settlement nestled in a valley. This settlement was being circled by a beast blessed by fire, there was no sign of hope in sight. On the back of this beast spewed molten rock, its eyes elated and glowing yellow, maw roaring with laughter as it tormented this small settlement. Those living within the settlement were terrified, for they knew it was only a matter of time til the creature decided to finish them off once and for all. The smoke billowed up towards the mountains revealing the silhouette of a man. The silhouette belonged to April.
With one arrow April called the wind blowing away the fires and sending the creature onto the other side of the valley. The second arrow flared like a meteor piercing through the creature like a bolt of lightning. The wind following the arrow incinerated all that was left of the beast.
The mortals of the settlement had witnessed something far greater than any of the legends had told. The people became devoted to April, spread his legend further, and followed him. And each generation passed down the story of how April saved their settlement from the beast. As April continued his journey, he would carve mountains that some of the followers used as temporary dwellings. April was not fond of the attachment the mortals had with him, but he let them follow along as long as they did not inhibit his travel.
One night the sky did not turn dark, for the Moon had found the Rifts and marveled at the beauty of it all. The Moon wanted to preserve this beauty so he called the mightiest beings that the Rifts had to offer, and hosted a meeting up in his court. The court of the moon hosted a grand cast. There were other blessed immortals, rulers of distant civilizations, knights, giants, beasts, kings, and mortals who refused to die. The moon told them all that he decreed to decimate the land and sought to designate rulers of that land. The moon could not be everywhere at once, so he said that he would spend a set time admiring and blessing a piece of the rift’s now ten domains one at a time. Whoever became the most revered in a region was given ownership of that dominion, and in turn the dominion would be named after who is most revered. April was returned to the Rifts confined to the domain of April.
